Magnesium-doped lithium niobate(Mg:LiNbO3) is one of the most used non-linear optical material in terahertz sources on SPS(Simulated Photon Scattering), yielding frequency tunable output from 1-3THz. 


This crystal comes from doping magnesium to LiNbO3 as LiNbO3 is prone to optical damage from short wavelength laser light, has refractive index fluctuations. After magnesium is added in, it has better resistance to optical damage, low absorption loss and no refractive index fluctuation within the crystal.
