有两类具有良好太赫兹透射率的超材料，主要有高分子量材料和高电阻硅，其中高电阻硅（HRFZ-Si）的折射率高。这种材料更适合制作镜片。

 

在高分辨率材料中，聚甲基戊烯（TPX）在太赫兹中具有最佳的传输性能，但对于光学级TPX材料，由于注塑成型过程中的高收缩率和低良率，导致价格高。因此太赫兹窗口材料一般采用聚四氟乙烯（Teflon）、高密度聚乙烯（HDPE）、TPX、高电阻硅，这些材料是太赫兹透镜的主要材料。

 

太赫兹透镜有很多种类型。常见的有平凸非球面透镜、锥透镜（用来产生贝塞尔光束）、螺旋相板、圆柱透镜、多半球透镜、菲涅尔透镜等。 太赫兹透镜用于太赫兹光谱仪和terahertx成像仪，用于准直和聚焦或反向使用。

HDPE是一种轻弹性结晶材料。它可以加热到110°C或冷却到-45~-120°C，PE具有良好的介电性能，耐腐蚀性和耐辐射性。在23°C时，密度为0.91-0.925 g/cm3，拉伸流量极限为8-13 MPa，弹性模量为118-350 MPa，在较宽的光谱范围内折射率约为1.54。通常，HDPE也作为组件材料出现。除了厚透镜和窗口外，薄型HDPE还可以用作太赫兹偏振片。

应该注意的是，HDPE的太赫兹传输与温度无关，因此允许在低温恒温器中使用HDPE窗口。其折射率的温度系数为6.2×10-4 K-1（范围8-120 K）。

 

频率范围覆盖太赫兹至远红外7um-3mm（100GHz-43THz），太赫兹频率范围内透射率高，理化性质相对稳定，极化程度高，响应快。
