Yb： KGW是一种用于二极管或激光泵浦固态激光器应用的晶体。它与Yb：KYW具有非常相似的特性，它们的增益带宽远大于Yb：YAG，使它们能够从锁模激光器中实现宽波长可调性和非常短的脉冲持续时间。通过被动锁模，它们甚至能够实现低于100飞秒的值。

Yb:KGW与其他掺镱增益介质相比也具有相对较高的发射截面。高发射截面是实现被动锁模的重要组成部分，这也有助于防止调 Q 不稳定性。钨酸盐由于离子半径和离子间距离的原因，可以承受高掺杂浓度而不会有明显的猝灭，并且它们的热导率也更高，约为 3 - 4W/(K·m)，比其他激光晶体热导率高。Yb:KGW 的结构是单斜晶系，使其具有天然双折射，这有助于避免热致偏振旋转和去极化损耗。最后，钨酸盐具有高拉曼系数，它们可以在中等光强下产生显著的拉曼增益。
